My nFullSizeRenderame is Corinne Aukland! I’m originally from Bismarck, ND and am now a freshman living on campus here at VCSU. I’m the oldest child of three. I’ve got a sister (17) and a brother (7). I’m a communications major and a music minor. Music has been a big part of my life for many, many years. I’ve been in concert bands, jazz bands, and pep bands as well as in many small ensembles. My primary instrument is the alto sa
xophone which I’ve been playing for about 8-9 years now, but I have also played soprano, tenor, and baritone saxophone, piano, and I’m self-taught on the guitar. I tried to learn how to play clarinet for my high school jazz band last year and that was… let’s just say interesting. You could also say I really like to talk. When I was in the 7th grade I joined my middle school’s speech team and loved it. I went on to continue with speech in high school and went on to achieve one of my greatest accomplishments: earning 6th place at the North Dakota State Speech competition in Jamestown my senior year. Another passion of mine is journalism. I’ve been writing and designing since I was 13 years old. In my eighth grade year, I joined my middle school’s yearbook and helped design pages, take pictures, and write stories on the students and faculty. I loved it so much that I immediately joined the yearbook staff at my high school and eventually over the years made it into an editor position. Being on the yearbook staff taught me valuable life lessons such as responsibility, time management, and leadership. Yearbook is what opened my eyes to the world of journalism. I found out that I loved reporting and, even more so, graphic design. I’ve been to a handful of state, as well as national, journalism competitions through yearbook as well and I am grateful to have been awarded 1st in the state for graphic design and feature writing my sophomore year. My ultimate goal is to work for Disney. Whether it’d be in their communications/advertising department or as an Imagineer, I’m not entirely sure yet, but that’s where I’d like to end up someday.
